Tuberculosis (TB) Control

The Modoc County Health Department works closely with health care providers to ensure that all TB cases are identified and treated effectively to prevent spread of this disease in our community.

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious respiratory disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is one of the most deadly diseases in the world. It is estimated that 2 billion people in the world are infected with TB. In Modoc County there were no cases of active TB reported in 2011 or 2012.

Physicians and health care providers are required by California Code of Regulations, Title 17 to report ALL SUSPECTED cases of TB to the Modoc County Health Department within one working day of identification. The Modoc County Tuberculosis Control Program follows up on all reports by confirming diagnosis, coordinating and overseeing treatment, and screening at-risk contacts exposed to TB cases.
